Markets and Fairs

"The German spelling dictionary defines the word "market" as "a sales event at which merchants meet at regular intervals at a certain place to sell goods for daily use at [flying] stands".

Weekly market

Fruit, vegetables, sausages and meat products as well as flowers, seedlings and fresh eggs from the farm, plus specialties such as olives, spices and pasta. Many products directly from the producer and from the region. All this can be found at the weekly markets in Villingen-Schwenningen.

The markets take place every Wednesday and Saturday from 6.30 to 12.45 h both in Villingen on the Münsterplatz and in Schwenningen on the Muslenplatz. During the winter time the Wednesday market starts at 7.30 am. On 18 December the Wednesday market takes place for the last time before the winter break, it starts again in April.

In addition, every Friday afternoon from 14.00 - 17.00 o'clock the farmers' market in Mühlhausen takes place on the historically designed Göpelhausplatz. The market is organised by an association of several farmers. Here you can also find a large selection of local products.

Fairs in spring and autumn

Twice a year, the Villinger Mess' takes place in the historic city centre of Villingen. With more than 200 dealers, the market is one of the largest in Baden-Württemberg. In addition to local retailers, there are also numerous dealers from Northern Germany, such as Berlin and Hamburg. Together they offer a huge variety of goods, ranging from jewellery to car polish. An interesting spectacle are the market barkers, who attract customers with special promotions at all four ends of the street. From sweets to cloths, everything is on offer to delight young and old alike.

Arts and Crafts Market

first digital handcraft market

The popular Christmas handicraft market, which always takes place on the 2nd Advent weekend in the Franciscan Cultural Center, unfortunately has to be cancelled this year due to Corona. The Neue Tonhalle, which was chosen as an alternative venue for the event, will also not allow it to take place.

We very much regret that we will have to do without this beautiful market in the pre-Christmas period - but everyone's health comes first. Nevertheless, we would like to brighten up this contactless time in the living rooms a bit and will offer an online handicraft market.

This is published here from 1 December to 4 January.

Here craftsmen and their products are presented. From jewelry, wool, self-sewn, wood and concrete to ceramics, there is a wide variety of handmade items to discover. Visitors can click through the various stands from the comfort of their own homes and marvel at the range of goods on offer.

This campaign is intended above all to support the artisans who have been severely affected by the pandemic and the renewed lockdown.
